Creation of a logo to serve as the emblem of E-Sangha
E-Sangha needs a logo, emblem to better reflect its identity on the net. For members who are keen in helping to design, you are welcome to post your logo design for e-Sangha here. All members, moderators and founding members are eligible to join. Preferably, the logo should be:
1) Simple and unique (Avoid having a highly complex design as e-Sangha.. The logo will most likely be used for many purposes: on the Intenet and future promotional items. The logo has to look good even when at small size. If the design is complex a lot of detail will be lost when the logo is shrunk to fit and people might not be able to make out the design. This doesn't mean that the logo has to be simple (and boring) for it to work. An elegant logo can enhance e-Sangha image. The trick is to find the right balance between design and functionality, where you have a great design that you can use for all purposes.)
2) Reflect e-Sangha mission of spreading buddhism around the world.
3) The logo preferably should reflect that we are a friendly online buddhist community.
4) The logo remains the property of e-Sangha
You can post your design here before 1st Dec 2003. Upon collections of all design works, we will setup a poll for members to choose the best design and the one with most votes will be selected.
This is a voluntary project and I am sorry that we cannot give any prize at this moment for the winning design. blushsmiley.gif
Thanks.

I can't draw very well at this point, but I drew up a simple sketch of a concept. Perhaps someone who actually knows his pen from his thumb might care to turn it into something good? smile.gif

This masterpiece of yours fits better :-)

I like the image of the fading-while-meditating Ego.
delphizealot
Thank you, Imago. Maybe I'll play with that a bit and produce something that would work as a logo. Perhaps a button-bevel type effect...hmmm. The full size version can be found on my website if anyone else wants to try playing with it. No prize or anything, so this contest can be very much a cooperative endeavor. cool.gif

On a side note, what size would you like as the base scale, Teyes?

what's wrong with the current one?
genkaku
Sorry, I'm not good with the gizmos and gadgets on the machine.

Personally, I feel that there is nothing wrong with the current one, but I would love to change it if there is a better one.
Of course, all these graphics can have a lot of other uses, when we are designing our banner, buttons etc.

No specific sizes.

I have a dear dharma friend who does some rather nice logo design. He is also a member of E-Sangha. I am certain if asked that he would create something brilliant for you for free.

Then we are definitely asking, Purelander!! Pretty please? smile.gif
tommy
Here is one I like.
purelander
How do you like this one? I have it in large size too. The background is a web color, so it saves some kb. smile.gif
purelander
And here is the simpler version, you could use both: the complex for the site and the easy for smaller banners & promotion.
purelander
And finally this personifed one; you can have it with black or white or any background color. if you don't like the slogan, I can change it. smile.gif
Imago
Well done, purelander! user posted image
Satori
Wow, I'm impressed, Purelander! You are really good at this. smile.gif
Imago
If you make them in 120x60 I will gladly include all the three in our Wisdom Link banner exchange program for free.
purelander
Thanks, glad to serve the sangha anytime. smile.gif If the E-Sangha admins like it, they just have to tell me. I can do the formats, or simply send them the high resolution graphic data via email.

So and now I gotta hit the bed, have been fasting for long enough today, birthday of the Buddha. smile.gif Happy birthday, Shakyamuni. Homage to the World Honored One!

PS: Imago, wanna check out my site at http://www.shakumasu.com ? Got a buddhist related quotes archive with 1,700 quotes and growing, free buddhist greeting cards, even buddhist puzzles, haha! And music smile.gif

Also, I di this free Dharma book site:

http://www.anzwers.org/free/chinkung/

Maybe you like it for the link gallery?

Yours in the Dharma,
purelander
Imago
Good work, indeed.
I wonder if there must be a dot in the end of "Where buddhist meet" - perhaps not.
teyes
Thanks Purelander, I love the graphics.
I was wondering whether you can change the 3rd one, the red color one, to a 468 x 60 pixels banner size, so that I can use this when some webmaster wanted to include us in their links? Thanks in advance.
Imago
Here is a Sanskrit version of the second PL logo - 120x60

oops!! bit too big, innit? lol.
purelander
Sorry, it took me a while ... However this is the banner, it's transparent, so will look pretty good on all backgrounds... and it's not boring "square" wink.gif

For the high resolution graphics, please someone who is responsible for this from the e-sangha team gimme an email where to send it to, and what background you like (black or white or some other web colour?), and what sizes you want etc.

Metta,

Thank you for the wonderful banner. This red banner will be used to trade links with others.
As for the other banner, I have no color preference, but should fit our skins on the board, which is orange, black and grey.
I am looking forward to replace this ugly design

and the sizing is 728 pixels x 90 pixels.
You can send the high res version to leo@lioncity.net.
Purelander, you can take your time to do it. Thanks for your help!
Hoyu
I'm confused teyes! Are you trying to replace the following banner with something new?

user posted image

I always thought that the banner above was a little big, and takes up too much room on the page. Also the transparent image behind the words, and the font used, might be re-thought.

Respectfully, HK

Leo, all banner of Purelander are the Beauty itself, but as for trading them, keep in mind that no one will put on their pages banners that are bigger than 10 or 12 KB.
Imago
Hui Kung,

This is the site logo, not banner.
Hoyu
Imago: Perhaps teyes is also intending to change the site logo as well.

Respectfully, HK
teyes
My actual intention is to change the logo. Somehow, most members assume that its to change our mast head and banner.
The banner that I mentioned above 728 x 90 is for use when our there's no advertiser. To see the red banner at work, you can click here!.
To change the above masthead, we need to consider our
1) Logo (A symbol that represents e-Sangha, eg the M that represents Macdonalds)
2) Tagline (eg where buddhist meet etc)
3) Graphics (All the images that serve the background etc)
So actually, I like to start from scratch, consider our logo and tagline, properly before combining them into an image.
I know a few members here that can do design, including Purelander, Hui Kung, Boom_Cat etc. So before we can combine them into a masthead, I like to know your opinion of a logo for e-Sangha.

Thanks for reminding me. When trading banner, normally I will serve the banner from our server, thus the size of our banner doesn't really matter. Currently, we have a few choices of banners for webmasters to choose.

Actually I thought the same thing... because you said "logo design" that you are looking for a new logo for the forum itself. But this is up to you, friends.

I just would like to say, that you should care for a cooperate idendity (CI) logo, or in other words: the logo should not look very different from the banners. However, you can still use differnet banners to promote the forum, thats OK, it raises the interst of the people. I 've seen this coming, so I sticked to the same text-logo to have some CI. wink.gif I think the yellow design would be nice as main logo. It got the buddha-head too, so it is in the flow with your actual logo.

But this is your forum, your decision. Just tell me, what you want. smile.gif

Gassho,

Thanks Purelander, I had our MastHead replaced with this beautiful art of yours.
One more favor, isit possible that you change the last banner to this size 728 X 90 for promotion purposes. Thanks.

My last submissions for main logo ....

thank you for your nice logo.... laugh.gif

p.s. care to explain why the Buddha's dialogue is white while E-Sangha's dialogue is yellow?
teyes
Purelander, thanks for your help. I had visited both your site, one e-book one and www.shakumasu.com.
You might want to consider this:
1) Meta Tagging all your pages, include description and keyword.
2) Removing the frames.
3) Alt text for all your images
4) Exchange links with some high Google Page Rank site.
This will optimize your site for search engine.
Thanks again for the wonderful banner.
Imago
Because, in the course of time, everything white becomes orange-yellow, just like the white robes of the householders, when worn out, are thrown out and the mendicant bhiksus take them. biggrin.gif
Satori
Thanks, Purelander! I am amazed at what you were able to accomplish--and so quickly! Great job!! Thanks again. biggrin.gif
purelander
Now I'm in the flow wink.gif ...large one ... (please scroll down the topic to see small version)
Aurora_Gloriae
Well, here's my attempt.
purelander
...and small one....
purelander
just if you would like to have the monk in the forum logo too. smile.gif
Hoyu
Purelander: That is the best one by far!

Teyes: Provided the images do not break any copyright laws, this most recent effort by Purelander is a Keeper! What do you think?

Respectfully, HK
teyes
All the banners are beautiful. I will defintely be keeping all of them.
purelander
Don't ask me for copyrights, friends. wink.gif I think, it's not that this forum makes profit, isn't it?

Just wanna mention, that when I arrive at the URL

http://www.lioncity.net/forums1/index.php

I still see the old logo of the forum, how does that work?

Gassho,
Purelander
teyes
I had not changed all the pages to the New Logo and I'm working on them asap. Thanks.
Satori
I agree with you, Hui Kung. That was the best one so far!! They just keep getting better!

ah, you don't have to worry about copyrights on the one I posted. I took the picture by camera of the statue at the Field Museum in Chicago and simply edited it in Corel. The statue is on public display so I don't think pictures are a problem.
I once went to an Egyptian exhibit where taking pictures was prohibited, if there was a problem with taking a photo of the Buddhist statue, I think they'd carry me off somewhere biggrin.gif , actually they'd just threaten to take the roll of film.
teyes
Thanks. For those who are keen in design, we still have a few more things. Our Virtual Postcards section and we might need:
1) Festive Season Cards
2) E-Sangha Cards
3) Birthday cards etc.
Thanks to all for helping!
