CHAPTER XIII.
PEACEFUL LIFE.

56. The wise man knows no vexation, trouble, sickness; the colour of his skin is not blackish; nor does he dwell in a miserable town.

O.k. I may not be reading this right but is this saying what I think it is?

Ansanna
no , that is a bad translation in done by the earlier centuries ,

Basically in the context it is talking about the Lotus Practitioners will obtain
illuminated body , in short they will shine from their inner life

The Lotus Sutra
Translated by Burton Watson
Chapter Fourteen: Peaceful Practices

" Anyone who reads this sutra
will at all times be free of worry and anxiety;
likewise he will be without illness or pain,
his expression fresh and bright.
He will not be born in poverty or want,
in humble or ugly circumstances.
Living beings will delight to see him
and look up to him as a worthy sage.
The young sons of heavenly beings
will wait on him and serve him.
Swords and staves will not touch him
and poison will have no power to harm him.
If people speak ill and revile him,
their mouths will be closed and stopped up.
He will stroll about without fear
like the lion king.
The brilliance of his wisdom
will be like the shining of the sun; "

This translation leans heavily on the Vedic intepretation of the Sutras and should not be taken literally but as metaphor.

Many Vedic expressions are about gods and heavenly phenomena. When it is said that Agni, the fire, for instance, puts the dark demons to flight, one should keep in mind that the darkness was thought to be filled with ghosts or ghouls, so that making light frees the atmosphere of their presence. And when Usha, the dawn, is said to chase the dark skin or the black monster away, it obviously refers to the cover of nightly darkness over the surface of the earth.

There is much literalism that still pertains in Theravadan countries in this respect as well.
